The Glasshouse Nursery & Garden Centre Ltd. was established in 1975.

Family owned and operated 2nd generation Martin Van Raay began growing annuals in small greenhouses, across the road from our present location. He also offered large field grown perennials custom dug in huge clumps and as a result became one of the first garden centres to emphasize the use of perennials in landscapes.

Landscaping with the use of specimen plants and large scale trees hand selected from specialty growers in British Columbia; Oregon, California as well as local sources established the credibility of quality and unique designs that the glasshouse has been known for, for over 20 years.

Dave & Sue Van Raay pruchased the garden centre. The move to a new location and the construction of large showrooms and display gardens in 1990 began to establish the reputation the Glasshouse has today, as "Chatham-Kent's #1 Plant Place".
